Fire Alarm Routine Planned Maintenance
Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations: 6 : Maintenance.
"Where necessary in order to safeguard the safety of employees in case of fire, the workplace and any equipment and devices provided in respect of the workplace under regulations 4 and 5 shall be subject to a suitable system of maintenance and be maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in a good repair".
Weekly test carried out by user
* During normal working hours each week on the same day and at the same time a manual call point should be activated. Staff should be trained to listen to the audible warning and report any poor or non audible areas within their work area. The person responsible for the test must check the correct operation of the system, any remote devices and record the test and call point used in the log book.
(Note: each week a different call point must be used. If the sight used a shift system the test should be carried out for each shift)
Schedule of Work by competent person:
Periodic Inspections comprising:
a; Inspection of log book
b; Check panel power and battery connections.
c; Check secondary power and batteries (if fitted)
d; Check operation of system by activating a detector on each zone.
e; Check operation of fault monitoring on each zone and bell circuit.
f; Audibility check at random point.
g; Visual check to see if all installed equipment is in place.
h; Issue job sheet, 1 copy to responsible person on site. 1 copy to Firexuk
i; Enter inspection details and results in the log book. (if available)
One Yearly Inspection comprising:
1; Items a; to i; inclusive in periodic inspection.
2; Check all detectors for operation.
3; Visually inspect accessible wiring (Electrically checked every 5 years)
4; Issue a Yearly Inspection Certificate.
Remedial work:
Any remedial work found necessary during inspections will be quoted for but not actioned unless an order is received. (Obvious loose connections will be corrected as part of the visit within reason.)
