New Fire Regulatory Reform Order
From 1st October 2006 the majority of workplaces and premises to which the public have access in the UK will be effected by this new Order which places fire safety responsibility for those working in and those close to or visiting, on a "responsible person". The responsible person must appoint a competent person to assist them and in turn they must be trained and /or accredited in their competency.This Order replaces the present system of fire safety certification and is based upon fire risk assessment that must be recorded where 5 or more people are employed on site, the premises are licensed, or an Inspector requires it.Failure to comply with the new Order can leave the responsible person open to recovery of any losses suffered by employees and imprisonment for up to 2 years.
